Complaints and Insurance Arbitration Board

In accordance with current regulations and IVASS Measures no. 160/2025 and no. 163/2025, disputes in insurance matters may be referred to the Insurance Arbitration Board (Arbitro Assicurativo).
The Insurance Arbitration Board is an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system established at IVASS, which allows customers to obtain an impartial and independent decision without resorting to the Judicial Authority.

Recourse to the Arbitration Board is free of charge or involves limited costs, is simple, and can be managed entirely online.

When it is possible to apply to the Insurance Arbitration Board

The customer may submit an application to the Insurance Arbitration Board when:

  • they have already submitted a written complaint to AMI Assistance;
  • they have not received a response within 45 days;
  • they consider the response received to be unsatisfactory.

The application must concern disputes relating to:

  • insurance contracts;
  • benefits, claim settlements, or refusal of compensation;
  • conduct of the insurance company or insurance intermediaries.

If the complaint has not been resolved satisfactorily, the customer may submit an application to the Insurance Arbitration Board directly online via the official IVASS portal dedicated to the Insurance Arbitration Board:

  • a copy of the complaint sent to the company;
  • any response received;
  • supporting documentation.

The operating procedures, time limits, and jurisdiction of the Arbitration Board are governed by the applicable IVASS regulations.
